LT OverviewIn this learning topic, students extend their understanding of addition and subtraction w/ whole numbers and decimals to include fractions. Students should understand that fractions are division statements that could represent values greater than or less than one. It is important for students to understand that the larger the denominator, the smaller the parts are. Understanding how to round and estimate about how much a fraction represents will help students determine if their answers are reasonable when they add and subtract fractions. When comparing fractions, expressing them with equivalent denominators helps visualize and procedurally add and subtract fractions to find the result. Students need to apply what they learned in the last learning topic around GCF, LCM, and LCD to finding equivalent fractions.
